In 2024, Theatre of the Mind by Swiss composer Roland Dahinden was released on the Moving Furniture label. Written for bass clarinet and electronics and performed by Gareth Davis, the work was commissioned by Stichting Mousai as part of its ongoing engagement with contemporary music and mental health. Drawing on Dahinden’s background in jazz, improvisation, and experimental composition, the piece explores the inner processes of thought, memory, and perception. Theatre of the Mind reflects on experiences associated with conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease, translating internal mental activity into a richly textured sonic landscape that is both introspective and immersive.
